Tattoo FAQs

  • I DO NOT TATTOO ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18. Even with parental consent, it is against the law in NYC. Government issued photo identification is required at time of appointment. You may submit a booking request if you are under 18, ONLY if you will turn 18 before the time of your appointment.

  • The studio is currently not wheelchair accessible, as there is a full flight of stairs at the entrance. If you require a wheelchair accessible studio, please reach out and I can prioritize you if I am planning guest spots at other studios.

If you have specific needs at any point during the tattoo process, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate them!

  • Whether this is your first tattoo or your fifteenth, it’s important to be prepared for your appointment.

Make sure you get a good sleep the night before, and eat a good meal just before your appointment. Feel free to bring a lunch for a full day appointment, or snacks to keep you going through the appointment. Having high blood sugar can help pain tolerance, and it’s important to give your body the energy it needs to get tattooed.

Wear loose fitting clothing that leaves the area to be tattooed open. Wear short sleeves or a tank top for arm tattoos, and wear or bring shorts to change into for leg tattoos. For sternum/clavicle tattoos, wear a button down shirt, and for back tattoos, wear a button down shirt that we can turn backwards for the tattoo. If you prefer to cover your chest for rib/side tattoos, consider a string bikini or bra with thin straps. Regardless of what you wear to your appointment, make sure it’s ok if it gets stained with ink.

You can bring headphones, a book, crochet, or something similarly small and quiet to do during the tattoo if you’re like! Be mindful that if your tattoo is on an arm or in an awkward spot, it may be difficult to hold some things.

You are required to bring a government issued photo identification card to you appointment (Drivers Liscence, State Issue ID, Passport).

  • When you arrive for your appointment, you will fill out a short consent form. You will be required to list your legal name, date of birth, and email. You are required to show a government issued photo ID for us to scan into the system.

I’ll show you the design, and we’ll talk through sizing, style, pricing, etc. Here we’ll make changes to the design if necessary.

We’ll put the stencil on, check that it looks good, and get started! While you’re getting tattooed, we can chat, sit in sit in silence, wonder aloud at the great mysteries of the universe, or just bring headphones and watch Netflix. We’ll take stretch breaks and food breaks if it’s a longer tattoo.

When the tattoo is done, I’ll take some photos and videos, and explain the aftercare process to you. You’ll pay me the price we agreed on previously, and then you’ll walk out with your cool new tattoo!

I don’t generally show clients their tattoo designs ahead of time for a few reasons:

    1. If we have to make changes to the design, I prefer to talk about it in person to ensure we don’t run into miscommunications that lead to unnecessary work on my end

    2. I have to protect against the possibility that you could take the design to another artist who will tattoo my artwork for cheaper

    3. The more time you have the sit with the design, the more time you have to second guess yourself, or ask for second opinions from others with different thoughts. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but can lead to designs that are less authentic to you.

I’ve found that it’s best to show you the design when you arrive for your appointment. We’ll sit down, talk it through, and discuss placement, size, and details of the piece. Any minor changes will be done on the spot, with no extra charge. Major changes to the design that would cause me to redraw the design (including but not limited to: main subject change, completely different style, completely different placement (for larger pieces)) will result in an additional charge to the tattoo to account for drawing time, and may require the appointment to be rescheduled.

There are some cases in which having the design ahead of time works best. In these cases, we will treat the design process as a commission separate from the tattoo, with it’s own additional pricing. If you’re interested in this, please let me know and I will give you an estimate.

If your appointment is over a week away, yes the design idea can be changed, just email or contact me.

If your appointment is in less than a week, chances are I have already drawn a design for you. In this case, any major changes to the idea will result in additional charges to compensate the additional drawing time. Minor idea changes will not result in additional charges, unless there are many of them.

  • I am cash only!

  • Let’s be transparent about this! In the US, it’s customary to tip your artist after a tattoo, around 20%. But tipping is not in everyone’s budget, and I never expect it. Please do not feel pressured to tip if it is not possible for you, and don’t let the extra cost of tipping stop you from getting a tattoo with me- I would much rather you forgo the tip if it’s necessary to get the tattoo! You can also tip in other ways if you want, such as bringing a piece of your art, a snack, ordering something from my online shop, or just leaving us a Google review.

At the end of the day, if you choose to leave a monetary tip, I take cash or Venmo.

  • In most cases, rescheduling is always an option. Cancelling your appointment will usually result in loss of deposit. However, I understand life happens, so please reach out and we’ll get something worked out. For more information on deposits, visit my Tattoo Policies page.

  • I won’t tattoo anything that contains hateful or offensive imagery/language.

I do not tattoo spouse’s/partner’s names.

I will not tattoo anything in a style I am not comfortable with, or do not enjoy tattooing. Those styles currently include but are not limited to: Tribal, American Traditional, and Japanese Traditional. In these cases, I will try my best to refer you to someone who will do your tattoo justice!

At this time, I do not do any cosmetic tattooing or permanent makeup.
